Review: MAC Prep and Prime EYE

MAC Prep and Prime EYE
£12.00

What MAC say: A light textured cream to wear on the eyes as an undercoat to eye makeup. Primes the lids. Smooth textures, neutralises lid colour. Use under eye shadow, pigments,
paints and concealers.(maccosmetics.co.uk)

What I Say: I bought this on a whim, I was scouring the MAC store looking for something to buy and yes, it was one of those days (eek!). I had finished my Urban Decay eye primer, so I pursued the MAC version. During my first use, this little thing and I did not get on, at all! The texture was very dry, I think I prefer a more liquid formula maybe. Blending was a struggle, it didn't seem to budge easily and within a few more tries, I gave up. My eye ended up looking like a serious case of caked foundation! Dry, flaky and yuk. Since it was already on my eye, I left it and carried on with my eye makeup and to be honest, I didn't notice any difference! Me and this little thing are no longer speaking...

I am unsure whether this is just my luck, as I have seen some positive reviews swimming around the beauty community. Maybe I am just a fussy one, maybe not? For £12 it is actually really cheap when compared to UD, Too Faced and Nars etc. Maybe the term 'you get what you pay for' applies to this scenario?

Have you tried this before? If so, how did it work for you?

  1. Im sorry to hear this product basically failed LOL. You should definitely go back to the UD Primer & thanks for posting this review. I was seriously considering this one because of the price, but hearing this i don't think this would do my dry skin any favor.

  10. Have you used MAC's Paint Pots before? I use one in the shade Painterly as my primer and it works well for me. Was considering getting this after my Paint Pot ran out but maybe not after hearing about your experience. If you've used a Paint Pot before, how might you compare it to this product? Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

  11. Thx for your review:)I have also tried this product before. And I personally think that mac painterly or barestudy paintpoint would work rather a better option!!

  12. Yeah, MAC hasn't been on my good side either. The only good thing I like that they make is their liquid fluid eyeliner and the potpaint eyeshadow primer. Their potpaints work really well and the application is really smooth. The formula keeps my eyeshadow on all day!! (the price is of course alittle more- $18.) But totally worth it!!

  15. I bought this a LONG time ago and have used it once then threw it in the back of my makeup organizer. I hate this product and refuse to use it on my eyes as it only makes it worse so now I've found a way to get use out of it, I use it and a lip erase haha some people use concealer but I use this now!

  17. I heard if you want a good primer, you should try the Korean brand called ''Etude house". Apparently its really budget friendly and works like a charm

  18. i didn't like this primer that much, it actually made my eye more greasy, and yea i did had problems on blending, my favorite primer is too faced, you should try it

  19. I have not tried this before, but will be sure to stay away from it. Your description of this product reminds me of their paint pots. I really wanted to love it but it was difficult to blend and dried quickly into an ugly mess. And now i hear from you that this Prep & Prime is similar. If I were you, I would return that and exchange it for something else you like, there is no sense in keeping a product that you know you won't use again. Waste of money. Have a great day! and thanks for your review.
